I had the opportunity these past few weeks to work with some amazing Saskatchewan vendors and style a shoot that was perfectly captured by Sharai Siemens Photography. My vision of a “wedding-inspired bohemian tea party” came to life along the South Saskatchewan River on one of the last unseasonably warm October days. The full gallery with complete list of all the beautiful people who gave their time and product to the shoot can be found under “All Things Pretty”! For now, I kinda want to gush about my new talent crush, Sharai Siemens. I just met Sharai in the past few months, and we automatically clicked! It was by chance that a mutual friend of ours had “liked” her page on Facebook, prompting it to appear on my feed. Being new to the Saskatoon Wedding industry, I’m all about getting to know and supporting other new talent; allowing us to grow together! I recently sat down and grilled her on a few items to get inside her brain and business a little bit more. Allow me to share:
L+L: I’m in love with your use of natural light and editing style. Can you offer up a few words to describe your photography “style”?
SS: Creative. Candid. Genuine. Natural. I love photographing in the moment! I like to find something beautiful in every setting and try to capture that.
L+L: It’s safe to say that your passion for photography shines through, not only in your finished product, but also while you’re working. When did you realize that you had the “eye” for photography?
SS: I first realized I had a passion for photography in my late teen years. I noticed that I would always be pointing out a “photo opportunity” everywhere I went. I found myself saying out loud, “this would be a cool place for a photo shoot”. I constantly would be looking and finding the beauty and creativity everywhere. It helped that I lived on a farm and was surrounded by stunning landscapes, that was what inspired me.
L+L: We all have that one thing in our career that is memorable and sticks out in our mind. What would be your most memorable photo to date?
SS: During my first photo shoot, which happened to be my sister’s engagement photos, we decided to take the old canoe to the creek down by our farm. I snapped hundreds of photos that day but my favorite image was the close up in the canoe, capturing my sister and her fiancé so beautifully.
I am so excited to have had the opportunity to have met and work with Sharai, and am excited for our future ventures- she happens to be a capturing parts of my wedding day in August, 2015!
